SECOND COMMITTEE: THE SIXTH COALITION
Committee Crisis Director: Tyler Walley |
We commence with the creation of the Sixth Coalition. In the aftermath of Napoleon I’s disastrous invasion of Russia, states across Europe began recognizing that the so-called “invincibility” of the French Grande Armée and the French Empire was nothing more than a façade. By the time French troops left Russian soil on December 14th of 1812, many of Napoleon’s allies and other neutral states began joining the Tsar’s side. With Russia, Britain, and Sweden forming the main bloc of the Sixth Coalition at the July 1812 Treaty of Örebro, the coalition grew to include Spain, Prussia (following the December 1812 Convention of Tauroggen), Portugal, Bavaria, and more.
In response to these events, Napoleon has recently threatened to create an army larger than the one he sent to Russia—and he’s made good on his promise as well. For the entirety of the cold winter months of 1813, he’s centered his efforts on expanding his military and his supplies. All of this is coming to a head now as his troops march on to Erfurt. The German campaign of 1813 has officially been launched, marking a turning point in French or Russian dominance. Will the Sixth Coalition prevail and achieve their goals of breaking up Napoleon’s empire? Or will Napoleon reinstitute their legacy as they advance towards Berlin? Will the stresses of the Penninsular War break both blocs apart? Only time will tell…
